Are The Rules of Washing Silk Bedding Change Right Before Us?

By: Dan Boyle

If you check around the site, you know that I highly recommend you dry clean the silk sheets. It’s the most consistent and most dry cleaners are professional enough to know how to treat silk.

You can, at your own risk, try to wash them in your machines. Typically that is a big risk, but things might be changing quickly.

The newer front loaded machines seem to be handling silk really well. The reason is they don’t have the center pillars that typically move the sheets around. Now the sheets are free to move around without getting stretched or snagged.

This might be the preferred way to clean silk bedding soon. Maybe one day with the advanced in washing machines, dry cleaners might not exist anymore.

However, remember to be careful if you choose to wash using your machine. We can’t cover any mistakes but it might work great for you.

When it comes to bamboo sheets, you really should use these amazing washing machines. This will help you avoid shrinking the sheets and also protecting them from ripping or coming apart.

Bottom line, I think it is worth a test. Just make sure that you use the right detergent. We are going to start carrying Charlie’s Soap which is a chemical free detergent and has been shown to work really well with silk and bamboo. In fact you can use it for all of your clothes to help them last longer.
