There are many things that are looked at in great lights, but that does not mean that they don't have some secrets it's good to know about. Bamboo bedding is one example of this in the luxury bedding world that has a great image, but it also has some dark secrets you should know about. Take the question of different bedding fabrics and fabrics in general being organic... are they really 100% organic?
Now it's time to reveal the truth about some of these luxury bedding materials so you know what you're getting. For things like this, it's important to know because nothing is worse than buying something, only to find that it's something you didn't expect.
First: Bamboo Isn’t All Organic
Bamboo sheets and bedding is a growing product. It’s actually a really great bedding sheet because it’s soft and it’s also hypoallergenic. However, bamboo has to go through a process where the resulting fabric is actually a rayon or viscose fabric.
You'll probably be scratching your head like I was when I first learned of this, but this fabric isn't synthetic per say but it's not all natural either. It's really a chemical reaction that uses an organic substance, bamboo in this case, to make a thread that imitates silk. This produces some pollution that needs to be handled with care.
This does not mean that bamboo bedding is a bad bedding material, it's actually great and only one of two that I suggest you use, but it's also good to know the truth about it as well.
Second: Pure Silk Fibers Are Very Different
So you have ranyon fabrics, which aren't all bamboo, trying to imitate the softness of silk, but you can also get real silk. What is really great about silk is the fact that it's one of the only fabrics that is really 100% organic and there is nothing else that is inside silk.
But when you are looking at silk sheets, there are different quality of silk that is produced. There are many different types of silk worms, for example the wild silk worm produces silk that is not as soft. Then you have worms that are raised in captivity and they produce the finest silk. And what is really interesting with silk worms is they live in a very delicate environment which is being threatened because of the growing pollution in China.
These are some of the secrets of the bedding world that you may never really hear about or know. It's really important knowing this information though because when you learn something about a produce you just bought that isn't what you thought, it's never fun.
