You probably have never really thought about it before, but bedding design can be extremely complex. You can go check out your local book store and find many thick books just on bedding design. Here are just three rules of the many that you should follow that will help you design your bedroom and bed to look incredible. This will make you feel more comfortable in it and it works whether you have luxury bedding or more typical bedding.
Rule Number One: It's About Halves
In this rule, you are to avoid creating halves, not making them. What I mean is never cut the bed in half by designing any element to be exactly half the length or width of the design. A great example of this is something that you probably already do. In the winter you probably have a blanket at the foot of your bed. Think about how it covers up the bottom 3rd and how silly it would look if it covered up exactly half the length of the bed.
Rule Number Two: Odd Numbers
As humans, we like to and recognize groups of three or any odd number group, it's just the way our brains seem to work. It's not difficult to use this anomoly to your advantage while designing your bed. It mainly works best using a group of three, but you should take on design aspect and have it really stick out then support that with two other aspects of design that blend in a little more. A good example that you can do, use a bright white silk comforter and then support it with two big pillows that are a neutral color or something that supports the rest of the room.
Rule Number Three: Specific Design Ratios
With this last rule, you are going to use certain ratios of three and five that are naturally the most appealling to the human brain. With these ratios, you can calculate the lengths and widths of your design. Some of the best places to use these ratios are with blankets, pillow designs, and even curtains in your room too.
It's not too difficult to study these rules a little and then use them on your next design so you can have the most amazing bed possible. And remember that it looks great whether you’re using luxury fabrics like silk sheets or just designing your daughters dorm room with jersey sheets.
