Silk fabric is an ancient fabric that has been around for centuries and I think that really captures people emotions and makes them want it. I think that is one reason why so many people get themselves a set of silk bedding. When it comes to silk that people buy, dresses and robes are by far the most popular... but bedding is catching up.
Because silk bedding is still somewhat new, many people don't really know that much about it and because of that, it can lead to some surprises. Now you are going to learn about some of the small things with silk bedding that make it different.
Silk bed sheets have the best quality at what's called 19mm weight. It's a measure of thickness and 19 is the best you can get. However, if you compare this with some shirts that are real silk, you may notice that they are actually thicker at a 22 mm weight. Many people think that the bedding should be thicker when that is not the case.
Second, silk bedding comes with seams unless you specifically purchase seamless sheets. You have to realize that the cost to produce seamless silk is much more higher and they will be a lot more expensive. The seam will run the full length of the silk but it’s not enough to really bother your sleep.
Lastly, silk bed sheets are not shiny and slick on each side of the fabric. It can't be slippery on each side because then is would not stay put on your bed. That is a common problem that you have with satin sheets and why some people don’t like satin. Just realize that silk is super soft and the only reason it's shiny is because of the way it's weaved.
